COLORADO SPRINGS – A man was arrested after a female victim reported being sexually assaulted at a convenient store Friday night.
Colorado Springs Police officers with the Sand Creek Division received a report of a sexual assault in the 3300 block of E Fountain Blvd around 8:10 p.m. Friday. Officers then responded to the scene, where it was discovered the suspect had fled the scene but no female victim was found either.
Police said there was physical evidence at the scene that backed up the initial report, but no parties were located. An employee from the convenient store said the suspect was a regular at the location and was sure he’d be back.
According to CSPD, the victim contacted officers to report what happened the following day, Saturday. This is when officers were also notified the suspect had returned to the scene, he was then taken into custody.
The suspect, later identified as Francisco Santa Maria-Lopez, is now facing 2nd Degree Assault, Unlawful Sexual Contact, and Attempted Sexual Assault charges. The Special Victims Section and Domestic Violence Adult Sexual Assault Unit will lead the investigation.
The suspect’s mug shot is not being released at this time, as this is an active investigation.
