Investigators say deadly apartment complex fire was intentional

A massive apartment fire that claimed the lives of two people and injured 10 in Westminster was reportedly incendiary or intentionally set, officials said.

Fire officials have just completed their on-scene investigation into the fire that happened at the Westbury Apartments in the 1500 block of West 115th Ave on July 22. Investigators concluded the blaze has been classified as incendiary, or intentionally set. 

Firefighters were dispatched to the apartment complex around 2:16 a.m. that Sunday. Upon arrival, crews found the 69-unit apartment building fully engulfed in flames.10 patients were transported to local hospitals, with two reported fatalities.

The property has since been released to management at the Westbury Apartments, residents with concerns about personal items are asked to call (303) 452-0032.

The Westminster Police Department and ATF Denver Field Division will continue this investigation as an arson/homicide case. No further details will be released at this time.
