Contractor hits gas line in industrial area west of Colorado Springs airport

Posted

Colorado Springs Fire Department crews evacuated a few office suites and an industrial business when a contractor drilling a horizontal shaft hit a gas line just west of the airport.

It was a small leak on a line buried more than three feet below ground. All of the emergency vehicles on the dead-end road of Observation Court did not cause a major impact for traffic on nearby N Powers Blvd and Hancock Expressway.

A Colorado Springs Utility crew was called out to the scene with a backhoe to dig up access to the line. About an hour after it all started, the scene was declared safe and evacuations were lifted.
