Oak Meadows Fire threatens structures south of Glenwood Springs

Multiple agencies are working to contain the Oak Meadows Fire burning near a subdivision south of Glenwood Springs Friday.

As of 7:05 p.m. Friday, the fire burned 20 acres, forcing the evacuation of homes in the Oak Meadows subdivision. The fire is burning along Four Mile Creek.

An evacuation center is set up at the Sopris Elementary School for anyone who needs to spend the night.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page that a type 1 helicopter, four single engine air tankers and a large air tanker were on the way to help attack the blaze from the air.

Deputies also said seven hand crews will arrive Saturday morning. Mesa County, Pitkin County and Colorado emergency resources will also dedicate resources to help out Saturday morning.
