Fire burning on Buffalo Mountain near Silverthorne

Around 11 a.m Tuesday morning, Summit County Fire & EMS reported a wildfire burning on Buffalo Mountain.

At about noon, Summit Fire said the blaze is at roughly 30 acres but is sending embers into the air that are causing spot fires near homes.

Multiple neighborhoods have been evacuated, including Wildernest and Mesa Cortina, above 20 Grand Road.

Summit Fire and U.S. Forest Service crews are responding to the fire. They have requested hand crews and a "big air attack," saying they hope to keep the fire from jumping the well-established fire break around Mesa Cortina and Wildernest.
