Late Tuesday night, Colorado Parks & Wildlife Officers and Larimer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a bear attack report in the Red Feather Lakes area of Northern Larimer County.

The CPW Wildlife Manager for the area said the attack involved a family of four who were tent camping on U.S. Forest Service property off County Road 67J (Prairie Divide Road). The Wildlife Manager said the attack was likely food-attractant related.

According to CPW, the bear trampled the family’s tent and as a result, an adult male was taken to an area hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

CPW said their officers are still attempting to locate the bear. They have set traps and are actively using "all available means" to locate and remove the bear immediately.

CPW wants to remind the public to be "Bear Aware" at all times, especially when recreating outdoors. The agency offers a number of resources with guidelines for preventing human – bear conflicts. You can find those resources here: BEARS
