A reported carjacking is under investigation after the suspect died from a gunshot wound and the victim was stabbed several times Sunday.

Park County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the carjacking at Park County Road 70 near Echo Valley Ranch late Sunday afternoon. The sheriff’s office said the carjacking victim was able to get away and flagged down a ranch employee.

Deputies said the employee was able to locate the suspect where a "violent confrontation" ensued. The employee was stabbed multiple times and the suspect was shot at least once.

When deputies arrived, the suspect fled the scene, but was located just before 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office said deputies attempted to control the bleeding from the suspect’s gunshot wound, but he died before Flight for Life arrived.

The stabbing victim was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood where he was last known in critical but stable condition.

The suspect was identified as a juvenile male from Jefferson County. No names are being released at this time.

According to the sheriff’s office, since the suspect died in police custody, the incident is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
