(COLORADO SPRINGS) –

Colorado Springs has gone straight to the dogs.

A recent survey conducted by the Trust for Public Land analyzed and ranked the top 100 largest cities in the United States. Results placed Colorado Springs in the top 25 cities in the nation when it comes to dog parks.

“One of the great things about Colorado Springs is we love our four-legged friends,” said Karen Palus, director of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services.

“It’s amazing, dogs need a place to run, and they don’t get that often, right? This is phenomenal, this is a phenomenal place for dogs to run and get their energy out, and really it’s a good place for me too,” commented one park goer.

Inside city limits there are six city dog parks, one county dog park, and several metro-district dog parks meaning there is no shortage of places for dogs to play.

“So there are a lot of varieties and options for family members, those four-legged as well as two-legged, to get out and enjoy our parks,” Palus continued.

And those options service not just local dogs, but all those visitors and their dogs as well.

“In fact, I would move here for this. Even if I didn’t have a dog I’d come here, that’s how great it is,” said another park goer.

According to Parks and Rec. there are plans for more dog parks in the future!

“We’ve been working on locations out on the west side and out on the east side to try to see where those gaps are and try to provide that,” Palus said.
