The Nebraska State Patrol identified a Colorado Springs man killed in a massive pileup on Interstate 80 about 50 miles west of Lincoln, Neb. Sunday.

Troopers said 81-year-old Franklin Owens was killed when high winds created low-visibility conditions on I-80, causing a chain reaction cash involving 30 vehicles.

Owens was driving with his wife 68-year-old Betty Owens in a 2014 Toyota SUV. He was taken to a hospital in Lincoln, Neb. via helicopter where he was pronounced dead.

Betty Owens suffered serious injuries in the crash.

All other injuries in the crash are considered non life-threatening. The crash shut down I-80 in both directions for two hours.
