This week on 5 Around Town we’ve got some options for the first weekend of May.

Family Fun Day Festival

Fountain Creek Nature Center will host a Family Fun Day Festival on Saturday. Starting at 10am kids can explore over 20 outside stations including live animals, fossils, kite making, pond critters, wagon rides, and more. Admission will be $4 for Nature Center member, $5 for non-members, and that also includes a piece of pizza courtesy of Papa Murphy’s. Find more information here.

Say It Ain’t So: A Prohibition-Era Show

Grab your best 1920’s outfit and head out the American Legion Post 209 on Saturday evening for “Say It Ain’t So: A Prohibition-Era Show”. The $43 price of admission will include a themed show, dinner, non-alcoholic drinks, dessert, dancing, and prizes for the best costumes. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. Kentucky Derby Party

Saturday is the Kentucky Derby and you can head to Axe and the Oak Whiskey House for a party. They’ll have a live viewing of the race, a dj, drink specials, and a costume contest (Derby attire is encouraged). Find more information here. 

Cañon City Music and Blossom Festival

This is the 80th year for the Cañon City Music and Blossom Festival, which kicked off on Wednesday and will run through Sunday. The big event will be the Saturday afternoon parade. The route will run down Main Street from 4th to 14th starting at 1pm. There will be over 120 entire, including News 5. It’s a free event, show up early to claim a good spot.
