Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year old.

The crash happened after 1:00 p.m. Sunday on Colorado Highway 109 at mile marker 61, three miles north of La Junta. CSP said an older Chevy Suburban was traveling northbound on Hwy 109 when it went off the right side of the road.

The car then returned back onto the road before the driver steered to the right causing the car to spin clockwise, state patrol said. The car went off the right side of the road and rolled over, where the driver was ejected.

The driver, a 17-year old female from Cheraw, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. State patrol said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A 13-year old passenger did survive the accident and was wearing a seatbelt, according to CSP.

Drugs and alcohol are not being considered factors in the incident, this remains under investigation.
