A proposed bill could give criminals who commit burglary of firearms harsher punishment.
Under current law, second degree burglary is considered a Class 4 Felony, but is a Class 3 under two specific circumstances.
Bill HB18-1077 would designate a third type of second degree burglary as a Class 3 Felony, which would include theft of one or more firearms or ammunition.
The bill also proposes that when a person is convicted of said crime, they could be subject to a fine of at least $5,000 but not exceeding $750,000 in addition to any other sentence.
