The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment is investigating a rabies case where a puppy recently died.

According to a release, a puppy was purchased off Craigslist and picked up in Penrose on April 12 and later died from rabies. The Public Health Department says it needs to find out where the puppy came from to protect people from potentially getting sick or even dying from the disease.

The Pueblo Health Department is working with the Fremont and El Paso County Public Health Departments in conducting the investigation as rabies is 99.9 percent fatal, according to a release.

The puppy was a red min-pinscher mix. If you have any information on the puppy or the person who sold the puppy please contact the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment immediately at (719) 583-4307.
