Garden of the Gods celebrated Earth Day to the fullest extent Sunday, allowing hikers and bikers to enjoy the park without any cars driving around.

For the first time ever, the park held a ‘Motorless Morning’ event in observance of the environmental protection holiday. For a five hour period Sunday morning, no cars were allowed inside the park, giving cyclists and walkers a chance to enjoy the roads and trails with no additional traffic.

The city of Colorado Springs has asked the public for feedback on some of the traffic concerns within the park. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is exploring options to improve overall visitor experience at Garden of the Gods.

One of the solutions, launching a pilot program that uses a shuttle through the park.

"We’ve seen a huge increase in visitation which is wonderful for the park but we’ve also seen a lot more vehicular congestion as time as gone on, so we’re looking at some different options going to possible try tome pilot projects to see what alternatives we can put together so folks have the ability to enjoy the park, have that visitor experience," said Kim King, Recreation and Administration Manager.
