The Air Force Academy men’s basketball program recently teamed up with a local YMCA to host a clinic for 200 Colorado Springs children.

The Academy said the purpose of the free clinic was to provide local youths with an opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals while getting to know to the basketball players and coaches.

"Interacting with the local community affords us the opportunity to not only put our cadet athletes in positions to develop as mentors and servant leaders, but it also allows us to bridge the gap between the Academy and the Colorado Springs community," said Brian Vamos, Air Force Athletics representative.

The clinic was par of the Air Force Athletics’ partnership with the YMCA of the Pikes Peak region. The Academy said that over the years, the partnership has provided children enrolled in YMCA programs the opportunity to explore recreational and competitive sports, connect with role models, and gain confidence by playing as YMCA ‘Junior Falcons.’

The event was held April 15, at the Briargate YMCA.
