The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 1-2 to Sacramento after two second-half goals.

Coming off a 4-0 win against Reno 1868 FC over the weekend, the Switchbacks headed to Sacramento looking to keep the momentum going. AJ Ajeakwa had the early chance in the 8th minute when he got behind the Sacramento back line but Cohen did well to deny him. Just a couple minutes later was Sacramento’s best chance of the half where they created a couple yards of space in the box to get the shot off, but Pouaty saved the shot. Josh Suggs whipped in a cross that AJ Ajeakwa got his head onto and Cohen had an impressive save that even earned praise from Ajeakwa. Once again, Suggs ventured into the attack but this time his cross found the foot of Verneri Välimaa and the shot was blocked. On the ensuing corner, Shane Malcolm jumped up to meet the Josh Suggs corner and head the Switchbacks into the 1-0 halftime lead.

Sacramento came out for the second half with all of the pressure and momentum in the early going, forcing Moise Pouaty into a kick save. That pressure resulted in Cameron Iwasa getting a one on one opportunity against Pouaty that he took advantage of in the 63rd minute. Less than ten minutes later, Villyan Bijev had an individual effort that snuck under Pouaty at the near post. The Switchbacks were pushing for an equalizer in the final ten minutes but to no avail.
