Some District 49 schools were on on a lockout status Wednesday afternoon.
Colorado Springs Police said officers were searching for a person who was considered armed and dangerous in the area.
A letter was sent out to parents saying that administrators initiated a lockout status at Sand Creek High School, Remington Elementary School, Springs Ranch Elementary School, and Creekside Success Center as police prompted a search in nearby neighborhoods.
Students and staff remained inside buildings, and no visitors were allowed into the school.
A communications member for the district said police are continuing to search the area for anything suspicious but schools are operating as normal during the investigation.
The lockout was lifted around 2:15 p.m.
