COLORADO SPRINGS — The Mesa Ridge high school football team learned some tough lessons from the 2018 football season.
Narrowly missing the Class 4A playoffs after a 5-5 campaign, the Grizzlies know they have to get off to a faster start if they want to play deep into the fall.
"I'm excited, last year we lost our first game and that's why we missed the playoffs," senior quarterback Kyle Gaster said. "The team is excited and ready to play."
Head Coach Rob Braaten returns key players at quarterback, wide receiver and on both sides of the line.
The hope is with another year under their belt, the Southern League squad is ready to take the next step, starting with Canon City Thursday night at 7 p.m.
"I've been watching film, studying opponents and making myself better," senior cornerback Charles Davis said. "So to actually come out, fight and get some else feels really good."
