PUEBLO — A shooting occurred early Sunday morning on the southwest side of Pueblo.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., Pueblo Police responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 1900 block of Sherwood Ln.
Pueblo PD said that when officers arrived, they found that 52-year-old Cecilio Ortiz had been shot. Despite life-saving efforts performed by fire/rescue personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives responded and initiated an investigation.
According to Pueblo PD, detectives learned that the victim had been involved in a "disturbance" with his son prior to the shooting. PD said this eventually led to the shooting.
The victim's son, 23-year-old Malachi Ortiz, was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on the charge of 2nd Degree Murder.
Pueblo PD said this the eighth homicide in Pueblo in 2019.
