Today’s Forecast:
A sunny and warm afternon is ahead, with temperatures just slightly above average. Clouds will increase through the day, and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon for the entire region. Rain showers will start in the mountains, staying spotty but numerous. Then thunderstorms will progress towards I-25 between 2-3 pm and continue east into the Plains tonight. The severe weather threat is low, with brief heavy rain and lightning being the main hazards.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High - 89; Low - 58. Nice today, staying just shy of the 90s. You may have to cut your pool day short as thunderstorms roll in a bit earlier this afternoon. Lightning and heavy rain is possible after 2 pm, ending after dinner. An air quality alert is in effect for El Paso county until 4 pm.

PUEBLO: High - 96; Low - 62. Today will be very warm, to the mid 90s. Clouds increase through the afternoon and rain becomes more likely starting 3-4 pm and through the early evening. Watch for frequent lightning and localized heavy rain.

CANON CITY: High - 93; Low - 64. A warm afternoon is in store, warming quickly to the low 90s. But rain is possible as soon as lunch time, with lightning being the main hazard today. Outdoor plans may need to be cut short with the early rain possibility today.

WOODLAND PARK: High - 83; Low - 53. Very nice today, to the low 80s in Woodland Park! The clear morning sky will quickly be replaced with afternoon clouds and showers by noon. Watch for pockets of heavy rain and lightning this afternoon, ending this evening.

TRI-LAKES: High - 80s; Low - 50s. Today will be nice to the mid to upper 80s. Showers and thunderstorms will be more numerous this afternoon, and progressing east quickly through the evening. An air quality alert is in effect for El Paso county until 4 pm.

PLAINS: High - 90s; Low - 60s. Hot and mostly dry today, to the mid to upper 90s. The showers and thunderstorms over the mountains have a better chance of making their way east into the Plains this evening. From late afternoon into tonight there is a chance of thunderstorms.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High - 80s/90s; Low - 50s. Upper 80s for Walsenburg and low 90s for Trinidad today. The sky starts sunny, with increasing clouds through the early afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 pm.

Extended Outlook: By Monday, the water vapor in the atmosphere gives one more solid chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon for much of southern Colorado. Temperatures will be very similar to Sunday. Then each day gets a bit drier and hotter next week, peaking in the 90s and 100s on Thursday and Friday. Find ways to beat the heat next week!
