Veteran screen and stage actor Brian Dennehy passed away Wednesday. He was 81.

Dennehy's agent Brian Mann said he died from cardiac arrest due to sepsis, the Chicago Tribune reported.

His daughter, Elizabeth Dennehy, also confirmed the passing of her father in a tweet.

"It is with heavy hearts we announce that our father, Brian, passed away last night from natural causes, not COVID-related," his daughter said in a tweet. "Larger than life, generous to a fault, a proud and devoted father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife Jennifer, family and many friends."

Dennehy was known for his on-screen roles in "Tommy Boy," "Cocoon," and "The Belly of the Architect."

He also won two Tony Awards for Best Actor - one in 2003 for "Long Day's Journey into Night" and in 1999 for "Death of a Salesman."
