The New Year kicked off with a good helping of snow in the mountains, and travel headaches came in unison. In general, most ski and snowboard areas received a fresh 5-10 inches of snow Wednesday and Thursday.

The fresh snow has boosted the avalanche danger to level 3 out of 5.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the pattern shift to warming temperatures and a clearing sky.

Friday will still be a chilly day in the teens and 20s, but the clouds will clear out through the day.

Saturday will be the warmer day of the weekend with sunshine and more 30s will be common temperatures.

Sunday will start dry and mostly sunny, with increasing clouds. Eventually a quick moving front will bring a couple more inches of snow overnight Sunday into Monday to the central mountains.
