Twas 5 a.m... when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;

and then CRAP it hits you that the darn elf hasn't moved. So now mom is stirring through the house trying to come up with a new spot for our Elf on the Shelf.

I have a love-hate relationship with this guy. The boys' faces light up every morning when they discover what "Dobby Tinker" has been up to while they were sleeping. However, the older boys are usually in bed after me (because of my weird hours) so I must remember to move him at 2:30 am. On more occasions than one, there has been a frantic "reminder" text to my husband around 5 am.

Our elf's movement usually goes something like this:

  • Elf hangs from a light
  • Elf forgets to move from that light - we say he got stuck in a blizzard
  • Elf is coloring a picture
  • Elf is racing hot wheels
  • Elf forgets to move - did we throw too many fits yesterday?
  • Elf forgets to move again - this time you were really good, he just fell asleep.
  • Is it time for Elf to go back to the North Pole yet?

I do often forget to move him, but I love the fun of Elf on the Shelf. Now that the boys are entertained (or perhaps old enough to understand) his antics, it's brought us all some laughs. Plus, there hasn't been a whole lot to do during covid so why not add to the magic of Christmas?

Dobby Tinker has been very giving this year already... baking cookies and leaving behind paths of Hershey's Kisses, marshmallow snowmen, candy canes, some Christmas jammies and a few small gifts.
By small gifts, I mean dollar store small- a craft, ball, hot wheels, crayons, legos...etc
