Around Town: hiking, painting and tossing fruit cakes

Looking for something to do this weekend? The News5 team has come up with a list of events that you should check out in Southern Colorado.

Hike with a naturalist
Join a Garden of the Gods park naturalist on a 2.5 mile guided hike from the Visitor and Nature Center through the Central Garden. The focus will be on the nature behind the park designation of National Natural Landmark. Bring your questions! Cameras and binoculars welcome. Dress for the weather with hiking shoes, and bring a hat, water and sunscreen.
When: January 24
Where: Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $5 per ticket

Coloring with a view
Coloring is a great way to relieve stress and be creative, and it isn’t just for kids. Coloring is a relaxing way for grown-ups to explore art too! Join in for a fun afternoon of coloring while enjoying beautiful views of Garden of the Gods. High quality coloring sheets featuring Garden of the Gods and other local themes are provided by historian and artist Susan Fletcher. Art supplies will be available for use or feel free to bring your own. Children must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
When: January 26
Where: Bean Spouts Café.
Time: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Cost: $5 per ticket

The Great Fruitcake Toss
The fruitcakes will fly again in downtown Manitou Springs! Join in for old fashioned games of tossing fruitcakes, costume competition, drinks and a fruitcake bake off! It all started in 1996 with locals throwing fruitcakes in the park. Events will be pure feats of strength, talent, balance and taste!
When: January 25
Where: Memorial Park

2020 COS Womxn's March
The COS Womxn's March serves as an opportunity for Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region to come together in solidarity, to celebrate, and to keep momentum for progress alive! Like the national movement, it's a way to harness the political power of diverse women and our communities to create transformative social change.
When: January 25
Where: City Auditorium, 221 East Kiowa Street
Time: Program kicks of at 2 p.m.

Disney's Newsies
Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, Newsies takes place in New York City in a time when children worked the streets, factories, and sweatshops to support themselves and/or their family. This inspiring story introduces you to New York's finest, Governor Teddy Roosevelt and Joseph Pulitzer, and takes you on a journey of sassy reporter Kathryn Plumber and energetic newsie Jack Kelly in an uplifting tale of valor, love, unity, and the impact the oft-forgotten.
When: January 24-26
