CO Parks and Wildlife battling invasive mussels

LAKE PUEBLO — Colorado Parks and Wildlife says 51 boats have been caught so far this year with invasive mussels on them. That matches the amount from all of last year.

A majority of the boats are coming from Lake Powell in Southern Utah, but CPW says none of the Colorado reservoirs have been impacted.

Investigators at Lake Pueblo caught five boaters with mussels. They say thoroughly cleaning and draining your boat is a great way to keep the unwanted species away.

"If your vessel is clean drain dry, you're not going to move anything from one body of water to another" said Doug Youngers from CPW.

If a mussel infestation does happen in Colorado it could devastate reservoirs and water activities.
