As a member of the essential KOAA News5 staff, behind the scenes since 1998, Amy Smith has just about seen it all.
The native Texan now serves as the News Production Supervisor for all of our directors, camera operators, and newscast editors. If you have a problem to solve getting to air, she's the person to see.
Amy started her television career with KAMR, the NBC affiliate in the Texas panhandle. "Amarillo is my hometown, and I am still a Texas girl at heart but have learned to love Colorado," said Amy.
During her time in Colorado Springs and Pueblo she's helped cover the Columbine shooting, the search for the Texas 7, the Columbia space shuttle disaster, Planned Parenthood shooting, elections of all shapes and sizes, plus every wildfire over the decades.
"TV production and news are my passion. I love what I do and that we help inform the public about things that matter to them," explained Amy.
Her favorite moments in news are covering events live with the team, given the opportunity to engage with viewers and have an impact on their lives.
