SOUTHERN COLORADO — Tonight’s Forecast:

** SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH UNTIL 11PM SATURDAY NIGHT **

Moisture has returned to Colorado. Coupled with a cold front, we’re in for some drastic changes this weekend! Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move from the I-25 corridor east towards the Plains. With the dynamics that are moving through the atmosphere this weekend, there’s enough energy to make some of these on the very strong to severe side. The greatest threats from these storms will be small hail, gusty winds and lightning. Tonight, the thunderstorms will start to die off, but will continue to linger on the Eastern Plains through midnight. Skies will eventually become mostly clear along I-25 and partly to mostly cloudy on the Eastern Plains. Lows will drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Sunday will bring the most noticeable of changes with high temperatures only in the lower 80s for the Springs and mid-80s for Pueblo. Thunderstorms will once again develop by the afternoon on Sunday, but they will be far more isolated in nature. Still, they will pack a punch if you’re caught underneath one, so keep an eye to the sky and on your KOAA Weather App!

COLORADO SPRINGS: Low: 57, High: 83. Strong to Severe Thunderstorms early this evening, then becoming partly cloudy with lows in the upper 50s. Partly Cloudy to begin your Sunday with isolated showers and storms by the afternoon. Cooler, with highs in the lower 80s.

Extended Outlook:

Monday will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, this time more widespread than Sunday’s Forecast. Temperatures will also be rather cool on Monday and likely the “coldest” day of the week, with high in just the 70s for both Colorado Springs and Pueblo. By Tuesday, we’ll dry things out and begin the slow warm up with mostly clear skies. The end of the work week will show a return of the monsoon moisture and the chances for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
