Tonight’s Forecast:

Although the Fall Season is still 2 weeks away, we are well into the fall-like weather patterns here in Colorado. Moisture has returned to the state and with it, a series of upper level disturbances engineered to ring out the atmosphere, bringing heavier rains to some localized locations. This evening, the first round of rain showers and thunderstorms will move through Southern Colorado early. Some of them will be a bit stronger, with small hail and gusty winds. Eventually, skies will become partly cloudy by midnight and our low temperatures will drop into the mid-50s to near 60.

Sunday will start with sunshine across the region, but by late morning, clouds will develop in the mountains, giving way to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Another upper level disturbance – round 2 – will move through Colorado on Sunday and drive the mountain weather onto I-25 and the Eastern Plains by the afternoon. As the storms move further east, they’ll encounter a more favorable area for stronger development. Small hail and gusty winds will again be the primary threats. However, Sunday’s weather will be more favorable for heavier downpours, so stay clear of locally flooded streets.

Extended Outlook:
A quiet weather pattern ensues for the coming work week. Temperatures will be slightly above normal for this time of the year with an occasional cold front to bring us back down to reality. We’ll steer clear of showers and storms during the week, with the potential of some rain returning for early next weekend. If you’ve got time this week, might want to head up to the mountains and take in the scenery as the Aspen leaves start to change color!
