Today’s Forecast:
Periods of rain and snow are expected today across southern Colorado, with most snow staying at and around the mountains, especially the Sangre De Cristos where Winter Weather Advisories are in place for 5 to 10" of snow possible today with wind gusts over 60 mph. Scattered afternoon showers will return to the interstate and some of the adjacent plains, with light snow likely across the Front Range, in areas like western Fremont County and Teller County.

The winds will start to get strong out of the south in the afternoon, starting first around Trinidad and Walsenburg and then spreading north through the Pikes Peak Region. The winds will gust between 20 to 40 mph overnight with wind gusts up to 60 mph through the first half of the day Saturday.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High: 44; Low: 26. Wintry mix to flurries are possible in the early morning and then a few showers possible through the end of the day. The winds will get strong through the afternoon and overnight hours, gusting between 20 to 40 mph.

PUEBLO: High: 60; Low: 30. Patchy freezing rain or a wintry mix in the morning with a few stray showers or sprinkles in the afternoon. Expect winds to get strong through the afternoon and overnight hours, gusting between 20 to 40 mph.

CANON CITY: High: 50; Low: 30. A few flurries in the morning are possible with a wintry mix possible through the end of the day. The winds will get strong through the afternoon and overnight hours, gusting between 30 to 40 mph.

WOODLAND PARK: High: 50; Low: 20. Mostly dry in the morning with light snow possible through the afternoon, although snow totals would likely stay at or below 2 inches by the evening. The winds will get strong from the late afternoon through the overnight hours, gusting between 30 to 45 mph.

TRI-LAKES: High: 40s; Low: 20s. A stray sprinkle or flurry possible in the early morning with mostly dry skies until the afternoon, when a wintry mix or very light snow is possible through the end of the day. The winds will get strong through the afternoon and overnight hours, gusting between 20 to 40 mph.

PLAINS: High: 50s; Low: 20s. Periods of a wintry mix and even freezing rain in the morning before mostly dry skies until a few scattered showers return through the late afternoon. The winds will get very strong later today and tonight, especially south of highway 50 through the overnight hours and into Saturday, gusting over 40 mph off and on at times.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 40s; Low: 20s. Showers in the early morning and then again through the afternoon with heavy snow out west into the Sangre De Cristos through the day. The winds will be very strong today through Saturday, with wind speeds gusting to and likely at times, over 60 mph. The winds will be southerly today and turn westerly overnight through Saturday, meaning semi truck drivers need to be most careful tonight and Saturday.

Extended Outlook:
The winds will stay very strong overnight, but especially on Saturday, blowing between 30 to 60 mph across the region, and even a few 70 mph gusts between Walsenburg to Trinidad during the first half of the day Saturday. We'll see dry skies through the weekend with sunny skies on Sunday and much lighter winds.
