Hot with high fire danger and strong to severe thunderstorms in the evening

Today’s Forecast:
Fire danger is high, the heat is back, and thunderstorms could be strong to severe in the evening. We're going to be about as hot as Monday, if not hotter, for most places in southern Colorado. The winds will get stronger in the afternoon as the humidity drops, prompting Red Flag Warnings across the region.

Storms that develop later today and tonight will have the ability to grow strong to severe, with very strong winds and quarter size hail as the main storm threats.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High: 86; Low: 53. Hot and windy today with elevated fire danger. Scattered strong to severe storms will be a possibility from the afternoon through the evening hours. It may be tough for rain to make it to the ground in the afternoon due to our very dry air. Severe storm threats could include 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 1 inch size hail.

PUEBLO: High: 92; Low: 54. Very hot and windy today with elevated fire danger. Scattered strong to severe storms will be a possibility from the afternoon through the evening hours. It may be tough for rain to make it to the ground in the afternoon due to our very dry air. Severe storm threats could include 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 1 inch size hail.

CANON CITY: High: 88; Low: 55. High fire danger with Red Flag Warnings in place through the evening. Isolated strong to severe storms will be a possibility from the afternoon through the evening hours. It may be tough for rain to make it to the ground in the afternoon due to our very dry air. Severe storm threats could include 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 1 inch size hail.

WOODLAND PARK: High: 76; Low: 47. Elevated fire danger with warm and windy conditions. Daytime and evening thunderstorms are a possibility today, but severe weather is not expected. Lightning, small hail, and gusty winds are our main storm threat.

TRI-LAKES: High: 70s; Low: 50s. Warm and windy today with elevated fire danger. Scattered strong to severe storms will be a possibility from the afternoon through the evening hours. It may be tough for rain to make it to the ground in the afternoon due to our very dry air. Severe storm threats could include 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 1 inch size hail.

PLAINS: High: 80s/90s; Low: 50s. Very hot and breezy today with elevated fire danger in most areas. Scattered strong to severe storms are possible in the afternoon and evening hours. Strong winds between 50 to 60 mph and quarter size hail are all possible in storms today and tonight. Any lingering storms this evening will die off after midnight.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 80s; Low: 50s. High fire danger with Red Flag Warnings in place through the evening. Scattered strong to severe storms will be a possibility from the afternoon through the evening hours. It may be tough for rain to make it to the ground in the afternoon due to our very dry air. Severe storm threats could include 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 1 inch size hail.

Extended Outlook:
We're going to have a ton of wind and even higher fire danger across the region on Wednesday. Wind gusts tomorrow could blow between 30 to 50 mph in the afternoon. Thursday is going to be much cooler with highs falling back into the 70s and a few evening thunderstorms as a possibility. Friday and Saturday look warmer and dry with storms back on Sunday and Monday.
