Brutal cold morning with sunny skies and pavement melt through the afternoon

Today’s Forecast:
Incredible and dangerous cold settled into southern Colorado overnight, with most areas waking up with single digit and negative temperatures across the region. Sunshine will quickly pull temperatures out of the single digits and into the 20s and 30s across the forecast region today. We'll see light winds and plenty of side street pavement melt through the afternoon. Overnight we'll see increasing cloud cover near the mountain towns, with heavy snow pulling into the Continental Divide.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High: 31; Low: 12. Increasing sunshine through the afternoon with light winds and chilly daytime temperatures.

PUEBLO: High: 33; Low: 7. Mostly sunny skies with calm winds and above freezing high temperatures.

CANON CITY: High: 34; Low: 15. Mostly sunny skies with light winds and above freezing high temperatures.

WOODLAND PARK: High: 29; Low: 5. Increasing sunshine through the afternoon with light winds and cold daytime temperatures.

TRI-LAKES: High: 20s; Low: >10. Increasing sunshine through the afternoon with very cold daytime temperatures.

PLAINS: High: 30s; Low: 0s/10s. Mostly sunny and cold today with fairly light winds.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 30s; Low: >10. Mostly sunny and breezy today with chilly daytime temperatures.

Extended Outlook:
Heavy snow will move through the mountains over the next two days, with most ski resort areas seeing somewhere between 1 to 2 feet from Thursday through Friday. We will likely see light snow on Thursday morning with more light snow possible on Thursday, primarily in and around the Pikes Peak Region. The weekend looks warmer and dry, with sunshine back in the forecast for Saturday. The next snow chance comes back to the region around Monday of next week.
