A thunderous Saturday evening

Tonight’s Forecast:

We are still dealing with quite a bit of moisture here in Colorado. An upper level disturbance is moving through the state and stirring up enough trouble and building some scattered thunderstorms this evening. The combination of the two should give these thunderstorms enough sustainability to make it out onto the Eastern Plains later tonight. As the storms move out onto the Plains, the mountains and I-25 will eventually see some partial clearing, but skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy overnight with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Sunday looks to start off with mostly clear skies, then becoming partly cloudy. A slight chance for a stray shower is possible along I-25, but the general forecast is calling for dry conditions and warm temperatures. By late afternoon, a few thunderstorms will develop on the far Eastern Plains near the Kansas border, south of I-70. Temperatures will warm to a few degrees above normal – mid to upper 80s for the Springs and lower 90s for Pueblo.

COLORADO SPRINGS: Low: 60, High: 86. Strong Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with lows near 60. Partly cloudy on Sunday with a possible stray afternoon shower. Highs in the mid to upper 80s.

PUEBLO: Low: 63, High: 94. Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with temperatures in the lower 60s. Partly cloudy on Sunday with highs in the mid-90s.

CANON CITY: Low: 64, High: 90. Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with temperatures in the mid-60s. Partly cloudy on Sunday with a possible stray, but brief, afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Highs near 90.

WOODLAND PARK: Low: 52, High: 76. Strong Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with temperatures in the lower 50s. Partly cloudy on Sunday with a chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Highs in the mid-70s.

TRI-LAKES: Low: 50s, High: 70s. Strong Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with lows in the 50s. Partly cloudy on Sunday with a possible stray afternoon shower or thunderstorm and highs in the 70s.

PLAINS: Low: 60s, High: 90s. Thunderstorms developing later tonight with some clearing late. Lows in the 60s. Partly cloudy early Sunday morning, then becoming mostly clear by midday. A chance for an afternoon thunderstorm is possible on the far Eastern Plains, south of I-70. Otherwise, sunny and hot with highs in the 90s.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: Low: 60s, High: 80s. Strong Thunderstorms early this evening, then partial clearing with lows near 60. Partly cloudy on Sunday with a possible stray afternoon shower. Highs in the 80s.

Extended Outlook:

A large ridge of high pressure will set up shop over the 4-corners area for the start of the next work week. This will provide generally dry conditions along and east of I-25 with hot afternoon temperatures. There will still be the daily afternoon convection in the mountains, but it will not be widespread. As the high begins to meander later in the work week, rain chances return for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If you call in “sick” for a pool day, I highly recommend Tuesday!
