Today’s Forecast:
Incredibly cold air falls into southern Colorado today and this afternoon will feel worse than some of the last few mornings! Arctic air is pulled down and settles into the state this afternoon, keeping highs in the lower elevations in the 20s and teens in the mountains! The winds will not be super strong, but still strong enough to where wind chilly will hang out in the teens and single digits all day. Light snow is coming to the mountains today with flurries to a dusting running up the Front Range tonight. The snow will be fluffy and even in the mountains where snowfall will be heavier, this will not be a huge weather impact.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High – 20; Low – 5. Cloudy, cold and breezy with wind chills in the teens and single digits. Light snow is possible this evening with a dusting to maybe 0.5 inches at the most expected.

PUEBLO: High – 26; Low – 6. Cloudy and cold with a lighter wind through the afternoon. We should stay mainly dry today and tonight but a few flurries and a weak dusting might show up this evening.

CANON CITY: High – 22; Low – 8. Cloudy and cold through Canon City with light wind through the day. This evening light snow is likely with a dusting to maybe 0.5 inches at the most expected, more snow will fall to the west of town.

WOODLAND PARK: High – 16; Low – 0. Cloudy and very cold today with a light wind and highs moving only into the teens. Light snow and flurries are expected at the end of the day with a dusting up to 1 inch possible.

TRI-LAKES: High – 10s; Low – >0. Cloudy and very cold today with a breeze through the afternoon keeping wind chills in the single digits. Flurries are possible this evening with a dusting at the most expected.

PLAINS: High – 20s; Low – >10. Cloudy and cold today with light winds through the afternoon. We’ll stay dry for 90% of the plains this evening but in Las Animas county, flurries to a dusting is possible.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High – 30s; Low – >10. Cloudy and cold today with light snow west into the Sangres and along I-25 from Walsenburg through Trinidad from the afternoon to the evening. Snow on I-25 will stay light, generally under 2 inches in Trinidad of fluffy snow and under 1″ in Walsenburg. The Sangres should expect a range of 1 to 4 inches by this evening.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK:
Very cold air sticks around tonight with wide spread temperatures in the single digits across the lower elevations and negative reading through the mountains. The sun will be back on Saturday and even though we’ll start the day cold, we’ll end it in the 30s across the lower elevations! Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend with 40s and even a few 50s back on the map.

Snow is possible on New Years Eve… and we’ve got a careful eye on this system. Blowing snow, possibly heavy blowing snow, will try and run down the mountains from the northwest, and that could mean a white New Years Eve! New Years day looks dry, but very cold with highs once again in the 20s.
