Tonight’s Forecast:
The time has come, for a more robust rain expectation for our immediate future!
Very little change to recent thinking, but the short story is, a tropical storm moving north from off the coast of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, will be the big "catch" for us, Saturday. The big picture has a lot to do with understanding the "why’s". Picture the jet stream with a trough over the west coast, and a ridge in the southeastern USA. For our part of the world, that means a common draw of SSW winds, aloft. And in a remarkable stroke of good fortune, a tropical storm just happens to be drifting north, and will get caught in that stream of wind…all the way into Colorado.
This storm has the potential to bring us a lot of rain. Which can be a double-edged sword. The entire region really needs the water. However, the ground is so hard and dry, it would likely lead to some flooding in urban areas, until the ground is able to absorb all that is coming. Storms will become more and more likely now, through Saturday, and then, in "Bud’s" wake, there would likely be an immediate drier period (Sunday?), before chances ramp up and stay significant most of next week. So, there is good news coming, in the form of heavy doses of rain.

NEXT WEATHER MAKER: Tropical Storm "Bud" could make a major dent in our rain deficit and drought situation, Saturday. Outer "feeder" bands could accentuate our level of moisture content Friday afternoon, so storms are definitely possible then. But the main show is Saturday PM, when the bulk of the remaining moisture is expected to feed right into the region! This would mean, multiple rounds of rainstorms. The downside, if it occurs, would be the potential for significant short-term flooding…because the ground is so hard & dry, it can’t absorb all the rainwater. So, that’s an issue to keep a close eye on.
