MANITOU SPRINGS — The COVID-19 pandemic has already canceled a handful of games for the 2020 Colorado high school football season, but on Thursday the virus canceled an actual full season.
According to the Manitou Springs PIO Suzi Thompson, the district has canceled the high school football season due to a COVID-19 outbreak in their community.
The Mustangs have yet to take the field through the first three weeks of the season due to quarantine restrictions.
Thus, Manitou Spring would of not qualified for the playoffs under the new CHSAA guidelines for the season, which requires teams to play a minimum of 4 games to qualify for the playoffs.
Thompson tells News 5 Sports that the district will petition CHSAA to let the team play in the Spring in Season C since the team barely had any practices this year, and did not play in a game in the fall.
