Fresh off their second straight state title, the St. Mary's girls basketball team returned to the court this week as the No. 1 ranked squad in Class 3A.

"Everyone comes at us super hard, beating us would be pretty crazy," senior guard Seneca Hackley said. "It would make someone's season to beat us. We always come into every game, focusing and not taking anyone for granted. Just going our hardest, playing like we know how to play, regardless of how the other team is playing."

Head Coach Mike Burkett brings back six talented seniors from last year's squad and the talent showed in their opener as they topped Resurrection Christian, 75-22 Tuesday night.

Having won back-to-back championships, St. Mary's will get the best from every team on their schedule but welcome the challenge in 2019.

"It's just something we've been talking about, we definitely have a target on our backs," senior guard Josephine Howery said. "But that pressure is kind of fun, we have to work to keep it, keep our title."
