COLORADO SPRINGS – After his team posted an 11-1 record in the 2018 season, Harrison High School coach Al Melo was recognized Wednesday for the Panthers’ impressive season.

Harrison also picked up the school’s first-ever playoff win this season, defeating Holy Family 34-28 on Nov. 9. Before that, Harrison was 0-7 in playoff games and had lost every previous game by at least 14 points.

“(I am) very proud of our kids and our school. Football is a great game and a great metaphor for life. If these young men are great fathers and husbands in 10 years that victory is much bigger than any game we will ever play,” Melo said in a news release.

In 2018, Melo’s team was one of the last eight teams standing in 3A before they fell to eventual state champion Palmer Ridge 51-14.
