COLORADO SPRINGS – Week three of the fever is here!

High school football is back this week across southern Colorado and News5 sports will be closely following all of the games in southern Colorado, but several matchups stand out this week:

GAME OF THE WEEK – Pueblo Central vs. Sierra: Undefeated vs. Undefeated looks pretty good on paper and it sets up for a good Week 3 #5football Game of the Week on KOAA.  Let’s be honest; it’s been a few lean years for both programs, but maybe things are turning around for both. The Stallions have already doubled their win total from 2017 and Central has matched theirs. The Wildcats performed well last week against Mitchell in a 28-20 win (even garnering Play of the Week). Sierra hung tough then pulled away vs. Woodland Park for a 22-7 win on the road. Winning on the road is hard, even in high school, so that may tell you something about the Stallions.

Pine Creek vs. Valor Christian: #1 in 4A vs. #2 in 5A; giddy up! Pine Creek has won against 3A, 4A, Out of State and now they will test their medal vs. 5A, arguably the best team in the state. Pine Creek has shown that they have not lost a step in 2018 and Max Lofy and David Moore III have proven to be a big-time one-two punch for the Todd Miller’s team. Valor will be their hardest opponent of the season, coached by former Denver Bronco Ed McCaffrey, coming from behind to beat defending 5A champ Pomona 14-6 last Friday night. If PC can get off to a fast start, they will be able to hang toe to toe with Valor at their place.

Pueblo East vs. Pueblo West: Pueblo East looks downright unstoppable right now in 3A after their hard-fought win over Palmer Ridge last Friday night. Luc Andrada, Kain Medrano and Marvin London have proven to be a lethal trio for the Eagles working for 117 points so far. Pueblo West looks like they have found their groove in week 3, taking care of Mesa Ridge 42-0 last Friday. East is on a different level right now and they are aiming for a 3A title, what would be their fourth in five years.

Discovery Canyon vs. Holy Family: Raise your hand if you saw the Thunder sitting 3-0 right now? Shawn Mitchell did. The Discovery Canyon head coach was confident in his squad that they can make noise in 3A this season. Disco took down Pueblo South 42-41 in overtime to keep them undefeated. The 4th ranked team in 3A is taking their talents on the road to one of the toughest teams in the class.

Doherty vs. Fairview: Can the Spartans get their first win of the season? The biggest school in Colorado Springs was close two weeks ago in a triple-overtime loss to Mullen, but they so far can’t get over the hump. Let’s hope Doherty can knock off Fairview Friday night in Boulder.

Other Games to Watch:

Harrison vs. Pueblo Centennial

Dakota Ridge vs. Vista Ridge

Canon City vs. Lewis-Palmer

Fountain-Fort Carson vs. Grandview

TCA vs. Resurrection Christian
