PUEBLO — CSU-Pueblo will host all seven state football championship games next month, marking the first time all games are being played in one place.

The games will take place on Dec. 3, 4 and 5 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl, according to an announcement made Wednesday. The Colorado High School Activities Association approved the move to CSU-Pueblo during a meeting Tuesday.

"While this year might not look exactly like it has in the past, we set out with the goal of giving our kids an opportunity to compete and see if we could offer a culminating event," CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Adam Bright said. "What that has done is led us to this point and I'm excited about where we are and what that is going to look like this year."

In order to have the championships at CSU-Pueblo, a variance had to be approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to allow 1,400 people in the stadium — about 15% of its capacity. More safety measuresare included in that variance, including color-coded tickets to direct people where to go and designated parking, restrooms and concessions for guests.

"This is an opportunity to showcase all seven levels of football — from schools with 30 students to schools with more than 3,000 — on the same field on the same weekend," said CHSAA assistant commissioner Adam Bright, who oversees football, in a release.

At this time the schedule is as follows:

  • 6-man and 8-man games will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 4, will see the 2A and 4A games at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, the 1A, 3A and 5A games will be held at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Playoffs begin next week with schedules being posted by CHSAA on Sunday.
