DENVER — For the first time Wednesday, the Broncos acknowledged there will be limited attendance at home games this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, while outlining options for season ticket holders to receive credit or a refund.

In an email, the Broncos informed season ticket holders they can request a full refund for the 2020 season or receive credit toward the 2021 season. The deadline for a decision is Aug. 14.

One interesting wrinkle, even if season ticket holders request a refund or credit, they would still have the ability to purchase single-game tickets. Also, game availability and seating capacity have yet to be finalized as the team awaits word from governor’s office and health officials. For instance, a season-ticket holder might be permitted to attend three of the team’s eight regular-season games and receive a refund for the remaining five. It is not expected that a season ticket holder would be allowed to attend all home games.

Season ticket holders will have first priority for single-game tickets if they are made available. There is no penalty in their standing for season ticket holders who opt out. The Broncos have the league’s highest season-ticket renewal rate at 97 percent.

In addition, there have been no final decisions made on whether tickets will be made available to the general public. With limited seating, it could prove difficult.

“We understand that COVID-19 has affected everyone differently. Many of you may be facing personal hardships or have health concerns about attending games this year,” the memo said. “Our organization will be as flexible as possible and has several options available for Season Ticket Members.”

In the memo, the Broncos acknowledged that fans in attendance will be required to wear masks, and they encouraged people to wear masks in public, showing support for the direction provided by governor Jared Polis.

No fans will be allowed to attend Broncos training camp, per the NFL policy.
