COLORADO SPRINGS — City workers were busy Thursday with a yearly house cleaning task, clearing debris from storm drains across the city.
There are 26 drains across Colorado Springs which are outfitted with huge screens that trap any debris that flows into drains, from trash to leaves and sediment as well.
This year crews say the screens had trapped tons of debris that would have otherwise floated downstream.
These screen filters are considered so important because they trap anything that would taint the water flowing into Cottonwood Creek which flows into Monument Creeek and eventually joins Fountain Creek.
