COLORADO SPRINGS — Thanksgiving is just over a week away, Christmas just over a month out and that means local charities need everyone's help to try to feed as many people as possible for the holidays.

Catholic Charities held their annual kickoff for the season with their "Stuff the Turkey" event in Colorado Springs. During the collection period folks can drive up and drop off frozen turkeys at the Marion House soup kitchen parking lot located at 14 W Bijou Street.

The goal is to collect more than 1,200 turkeys, and it's not just for the holiday season, the soup kitchen relies on this protein year round, "Catholic Charities accepts donations of turkeys every year for the meals we serve... and to delivery to families in the community, " says Corey Almond with Catholic Charities.

Right now it's estimated they will be serving at least 400 families in need throughout the end of 2019.
