PUEBLO — Pueblo County Commissioners are working to be more transparent when it comes to collecting and spending marijuana tax money.

Commissioners voted this week to approve the creation of an oversight committee, made up of 7 people from both the city and county to specifically work to track marijuana tax money.

Commissioner Garrison Ortiz says it's important to the community, "Where do all of our marijuana tax dollars go, I think we hear that so prevalently in the community we said that we needed to do a better job of communicating with the public and this board will help give another level of transparency and accountability."

The committee is slated to start meeting at the beginning of 2020.

Pueblo County typically collects millions of dollars in marijuana tax money each year and spends it on things such as scholarships and infrastructure projects.
