CONIFER, Colo. – A father and son were shot in Conifer in Jefferson County around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night, and after taking one suspect into custody into early Friday morning, authorities are still searching for two other suspects.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the suspects may have fled on foot and there was a danger to the public. The shooting happened in the 11000 block of Blackfoot Road and officials were asking residents in the area to shelter-in-place at their homes, as of 10:45 p.m. SWAT officers were near the scene of the shooting, searching for the suspects.
On Friday morning, the sheriff's office public information officer confirmed the two people shot were a father and his son. They were both taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. One had a non-life threatening injury and the other victim's condition was unknown, the sheriff's office said.
Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, the sheriff's office announced they had located one suspect — a juvenile male — and taken him into custody. The other suspects are black men and are not expected to be in the Conifer area anymore, the sheriff's office said.
There was a temporary shelter-in-place Thursday evening, which was lifted a couple hours after midnight.
Investigators said they are following several leads and do not believe the shooting was random.
