DENVER -- Families, employees and union members gathered outside the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Denver office on Wednesday to protest.
The JBS meat plant in Greeley was hit with a $15,615 fine after a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility. According to the United Food and Commercial Workers union, 300 employees were infected with the virus and six died.
During the protest, the union president said the fine was a slap in the face and added she doesn't believe it will be enough to force JBS to protect workers.
59-year-old Tin Aye spent 12 years as a JBS employee. She tested positive for COVID-19 in March and spent two months in the ICU before she passed away.
"The company never cared for the employees safety and what I think, is the government also didn’t care for the employee,"said San Twin, her daughter.
