CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado Parks and Wildlife search and rescue experts continue their search for a Buena Vista high school student who went missing after the canoe he was riding in with a friend capsized as they were hunting ducks on Clear Creek Reservoir in Chaffee County.

The CPW said additional resources will be brought in Monday morning to continue the search. They determined Sunday the mission to find the missing teen has turned into a recovery effort.

Strong winds caused the canoe to flip, dumping the two teens in the frigid water around 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Two CPW officers responded and found the mother of one boy and the father of the other on shore. The man swam out to the canoe and the CPW officers helped as he rescued one of the boys, said Jim Aragon, CPW Area Wildlife Manager for the region.

But they were unable to locate the other boy as darkness set in. The canoe washed ashore across the lake with other items on Sunday.

The CPW Marine Evidence Recovery Team is using underwater drone with sonar to try to locate the boy.
