FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An unusual situation for Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Thursday after police received multiple calls of a kangaroo hopping through the streets.

Body camera footage showed officers arriving to find the animal standing in the middle of the road.

They were able to get the kangaroo to hop closer to them, got a rope around its neck and eventually wrangled it into the backseat of a police car.

It turns out the animal had escaped from its owner.

Kangaroos are illegal in Fort Lauderdale. Now it's up to Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission to decide on its new home.

Fort Lauderdale Police later posted a video of the kangaroo in the department's stables.
