COLORADO SPRINGS – News 5 confirmed Tuesday that Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers will run for re-election next April.

Suthers made the informal announcement on the radio Tuesday morning, but he’s expected to make a formal announcement in January.

Suthers was first elected to the office in April 2015. Prior to his first term in office, he was Colorado’s attorney general for 10 years.

Voters in Colorado Springs will decide on the race for mayor as well as three city council seats during the municipal election, which is scheduled for April 2, 2019.

At this time, no other opponents have declared their intention to run. Candidate petitions will be accepted next January.

If Suthers is re-elected, he would serve as mayor until 2023.
