Today marks the first annual "Mother Cabrini Day" in our state.

Saint Frances Cabrini was an Italian immigrant who became a naturalized citizen in Denver in the early 1900s.

She was the first American to be canonized by the Catholic Church for her work in founding schools, orphanages, and hospitals throughout the U.S. and South America.

This year, Colorado lawmakers officially adopted the new state holiday. As an alternative day to Columbus Day, it is considered to be the first paid state holiday recognizing a woman in the U.S.
