Watering now can give your plants a boost this spring

COLORADO SPRINGS — Experts say this is a critical time of year to give your trees and shrubs a leg up on spring.

The State Forest Service says temperatures above 40 degrees provide a perfect opportunity to water, and you can soak a wide area.

"Placing the hose down around the base of the tree and maybe going in four sections around the tree, letting it trickle for five to ten minutes," said Linda Curtis from Spencer's Lawn and Garden in Colorado Springs.

They suggest water twice a month now, as many areas in lower elevations are still experiencing drought.
